Yayyy, our first update of the season. Spring has sprung and the weather is looking up over the next several days (after the rain).
Things are moving along at the farm. The tomatoes are in the greenhouse, the peas are up and starting to climb the pea fence, carrots are sprouting and there are plenty of flats of plants waiting to go into the ground. Beds are waiting to be planted and built so this is a busy and exciting time. So much to do.
Pick Up Days and Times Confirmed
We have confirmed our pick up days and locations. Friday will be East Vancouver between 5 and 7 pm (Tyne and E 49th ave). Saturday will be West Vancouver between 3 and 5 pm (Welch St. and Ikwikws Rd.). Sunday will be the Langley Farm between 3:30 and 5:30 pm (716 248th Ave). Once confirmed, we plan on being at the White Rock Farmer's Market between 10 and 2 where you are welcome to pick up your box there as well. We ask that you please let us know in advance so we may ensure your box is there for you.
Everyone is Welcome
We would like everyone to know that you are welcome to visit the farm. Please call in advance to ensure that someone will be there. While we do our best to minimise dangers, it is a working farm and there is a slight risk of injury. Entry into the growing area is done so at your risk. Please watch your step as the ground can be uneven which can twist an ankle.
Playing in the Dirt
We also welcome anyone who would like to get their hands dirty and volunteer to help as little or as much as you'd like. On that note - a 2007 study in the journal Neuroscience, showed that the soil contains a microbe called Mycobacterium vaccae that affects the brain in a similar way as antidepressants. The bacterium appear to activate a particular group of brain neurons that produce serotonin. A lack of serotonin has been linked to several mood disorders, fibromyalgia, and irritable bowel syndrome. So spending time with your hands in the dirt is good your you..... We're just sayin'. : )
Take care everyone and thank you for your support.
Frank and Geoff
